December 07, 2005Next in Real D (3-D)The next movie to be released in Real D is Monster House (preview here). I hope the 3D effects are better in that movie than they were in the 3D version of Chicken Little, the first movie to be released in Real D. The technology was good (it was bright, vivid, and clear), but the 3D did not have a lot of depth to it. I do not think this has anything to do with the Real D technology, but the movie itself. I would guess the animation for Chicken Little was made in 2D originally then adapted afterwards for 3D. All the movies in the near future for Real D are probably going to be made the same way. Originally shot in 2D then updated to 3D afterwards such as Star Wars (see my post here for more info) and King Kong. This is because it is still too expensive to shoot a whole movie with a 3D camera. Although there are rumors that Peter Jackson did shoot some footage of King Kong with a 3D camera (source). I am not sure if Monster House was originally made for 3D, but I seriously doubt it. To see if your city has a theater that can play Real D movies click here. December 06, 2005X-Men 3 preview addedThe X-Men 3 movie teaser trailer was just released. I loved the last two and this one looks pretty good.
You can view it now in the Movie Preview Center. December 04, 2005Chattanooga IMax part IIJust over a year ago I wrote a blog post (here) about The Chattanooga IMax not showing the Polar Express in 3-D. I called the theater, wrote e-mails, and pitched a fit, but they did not have the equipment to show full feature films. Sometime in the past year apparently they bought new equipment , so if you missed the Polar Express in 3-D last year here is your change to see it again. If you have not seen it you really should, it is spectacular in IMax 3-D. |
