I have been watching Lost on ABC (Wed 8/7c). If you have not seen it I suggest watching the two episodes you missed on Saturday. It is turning out to be a pretty good show. The only issue I have with it is the character from Iraq’s Republic Guard who fought against us in the Gulf War that they are making into a hero. I don’t really know if that is appropriate considering all the problems we are having in Iraq right now. It reminds me of the movie American Beauty when they made the drug dealer the hero. That was an absolutely sickening movie. September 29, 2004SpaceShipOne Blasts into SpaceSpaceShipOne (image below) completed the first of two successful flights into space to win the $10 million Ansari X prize. Quote by Fox News Basicly the first person to build a ship and fly it into space (100km or 62 miles above Earth) wins a hefty $10 million award (other criteria apply). They did this because it is important to try to get the public sector involved in space travel. In the past 40 years the cost of going into space has not changed. If we ever want to find an easy way to get into space we have to make people think there is money to be made by doing so. Obviously the $10 million is just a tease to try and get something started. As God said at the Tower of Babel anything we put our minds to we will accomplish. Genesis 11:5-6 If people/companies think there is money to be made by getting into space, we will be there in no time. Space travel will then become more and more efficent and frequent. September 27, 2004Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
A brand new season of my favorite show came on last night. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition hosted by Ty Pennington. This is where they find a family, send them on vacation for a week, and totally recreate their house. One of the reasons I love this show is because of the families they choose. Most seem like very deserving families and seem to be Christians as well. I would be very surprised to find that the producers of the show were not Christians. I use to wonder what it would be like to be able to do things like that for people who really need it, now I can actually watch it being done. I actually heard one of the kids on the show today say "This is sick" referring to their new room that he seemed to really like. Of course this is confusing for me (as is should be for any English speaking person). He seemed to be a pretty normal kid, so I don’t think he was just confused as to what "sick" really means. Perhaps the word "sick" is the new "bad". September 24, 2004Reality Show RantI was a little bit disappointed in the broadcast of Survivor last night. I just got a new HD big screen rear projection TV, and I was looking forward to watching Survivor in High Def to impress my in-laws who always come over on Thursday nights. To my surprise CBS’s second most popular show according to Neilson Ratings (behind CSI) was not broadcast in HD. The only reason I can think of that would make them not broadcast one of the biggest shows on TV in HD was because of the demographic of their target audience. I can see a show like The Bachelor not broadcasting in HD because of the level of intelligence of their target audience directly affecting their capability of affording a HD TV, but not survivor. In all honestly, if my in-laws didn’t come over to watch it with me and my wife then I probably wouldn’t watch it either. Since I am forced to watch it, I often find myself enjoying it or getting into it. However, shows like the Bachelor only attracts a more feminine crowd who have a misconception of what is romantic (as if finding love on a show where "prince Charming" is also dating 30 other girls is romantic), they do not understand what real love is, and their idea of a heart throb (in this case) is a Professional Bass Fisherman. Yes, I said a Professional Bass Fisherman. They went from the Bachelor being a Professional Football player (although a bench warmer, but still) to a Professional Bass Fisherman. September 19, 2004Vols Kicker RedeemedKNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- James Wilhoit missed the easy one to tie, then made the tough one to win it. The Vols just scored a touchdown making the score was 27-28, and James Wilhoit was about to kick a simple extra point to tie the game and give the Vols a chance to beat Florida in overtime. Wilhoit then missed the first extra point of his career. Luckily 199 seconds later the Tennessee kicker found redemption. Wilhoit got a second chance and nailed a 50-yard field goal with six seconds left to give the Vols a 30-28 win over Florida.
September 18, 2004First SurvivorThe first episode of Survivor made me sick yesterday. The girls and guys separated into different tribes, and let me just say that those guys really are complete and total morons. We are not smart enough to vote off the weakest out of the group in a game called "survivor". In case you didn’t see the show, there was one guy named Chris who couldn’t complete a simple challenge. I don’t mean didn’t do well, I mean couldn’t compete it at all. The guys were just standing around watching this horribly physically challenged man as he tried to cross a piece of wood. The guys loose the challenge, fair enough. Now in order to win the next challenge they need to vote this guy off. They didn’t, they voted off a younger, stronger competitor instead of the guy who couldn’t even crawl across a piece of wood. There is no way the guys are going to win ANY of the challenges with Chris. They are all morons. I am rooting for the women. I have to say watching that tribal council I am embarrassed to be a guy. |
